I’d like to start with my definition of a blessing
because when you say ‘Blessed Be’, you are bestowing on the recipient a wish
for them to be blessed. Blessing can be a ritual practice or
simply used as a term to send out general positive intentions… there are other
uses in between these two polarities but these are the two I will focus on in
this post/reflection.
My definition of a blessing is a blend of prayer and
positive intention. As I’m sure you are aware, intention is the key to
successful magick; the intention of a blessing can be specific or general –
specifically heal my friends broken heart, generally make my friend feel
better. It is projecting your wish for someone else to the Universe. The other half
of the blend is prayer, and when I bless via ritual this is more evident as I
invoke deity to do so, unless the blessing is for deity (that is another post
altogether).
A ritual blessing is what I consider a true
blessing, it is done in circle, it is asking the Universe to give someone
something specific - good luck, good fortune, protection, healing – I use a
spell candle: carve and anoint it, invoke an appropriate deity and burn the
candle whilst meditating on the recipient of the blessing and visualising them receiving
the energy of the it. I conclude the meditation by saying “Blessed Be” aloud. I
suppose this could be considered a spell but my spells tend to get elaborate
and I like to keep blessings simple.
The other form of blessing I mentioned is ‘general
positive intentions’. Now, this is open to interpretation but for me, it has the
simplest intention behind it and is just a way of saying to the Universe: “I
want good things for this person”. I deliver this message to the recipient by
saying “Blessed Be”! When I write these words at the end of a post, I am
bestowing these general positive intentions as a thank you for reading the
post.
Well this is to be my last thought on the
matter and I decided to pick up on this quote (see left) and as I write I am
listening to ‘I am Blessed’ by Eternal (circa 1998). It is my contemplation time: considering those who bless me with their kindness, love and understanding; how they think of me as a blessing. Also, I think of the people and
things that are a blessing in my life. When I reflect on these
things, the word ‘blessings’ takes on another meaning: sent from the Gods. I ask myself 'Who
in my life do I feel this way about and do I tell them often enough that they are a blessing to me'? The answer in no because no amount would be enough. So I am going to say it here, and hope that in cyber space it will always live on that these people are and always will be a blessing in my life:
My family first:
MOM - DAD - MICHELLE - MEGAN - BRENDAN - NAN - AUNTIE DAWN & FAMILY - UNCLE ROY & FAMILY - UNCLE BARRY
To family now in spirit:
GRANDDAD - NAN & GRANDDAD LAWRENCE - MITCHEL - AUNTIE PEGGY - UNCLE DAVID - UNCLE BRIAN
To friends:
+Shiann Raven Moon & FAMILY - VICKY - JAYNE - GAIL - CLAIRE. G - CLAIRE. F - LAUREN - LISA - +Laura Daligan
There are a million names I could mention, people
who have touched a moment of my 32 years but these are the people who have
stood out the most and who I consider true blessings and gifts from the Gods.
So Blessed Be to all on this list and to all who read
this post. I thank you. xxx
