There is no limit on the human heart in its
capacity to love and even if there is someone you are unable to love, kindness
is an act that can and should be freely given to all that you meet. Everyone faces
struggles, upheavals and battles in life and whether those problems are
financial, romantic, legal, or emotional there is no reason to add to their
load by being unkind or disrespectful.
SHARE A SMILE
There is no simpler way to
cheer someone up than by smiling, it is the most infectious way of transferring
positive energy to another person.
GIVE A HUG
(This is for people you
know and will accept a hug).
The physical contact of a
hug is generally a welcome form of comfort and will not only connect you with
another person to make them feel better but as the embrace is returned, it will
give you a boost too.
MANNERS
Saying ‘please’ and ‘thank
you’ may not really fall into the category of kindness for many people but I
feel that it is an act of kindness to show gratitude for someone offering you
something.
CHIVALRY
This concept has
considerably waned in recent years but it used to be a constant expression of
respect and reverence: holding a door open to let someone pass you is the simplest
act of chivalry that springs to mind but the most popular I can remember, which
was part of a national television commercial, was to give the one you love your
last Rolo - the ultimate act of love and kindness (especially if you like Rolo’s).
HELPING HAND
There is no greater gesture
of kindness that helping someone out in their time of need. It could be as
simple as one of the above acts or something a little more involved. Always be
aware that pride can get in the way of somebody asking for or accepting help so
always offer it from a place of love, not sympathy or pity.
