Magick of the Day - Sundays

Well this is a new category for my blog and I am very pleased with the idea; I am hoping it will inspire me to post more about the daily magicks I practice, perform and live. Some days it will be a focus on the magick of a particular correspondence or association – this may be a particular day, colour, planet, tree, etc., within these posts I will show, describe and/or explain how I utilize the subjects energies in workings; at other times it will be a specific working. As this is the first one, I am going to post about Sundays – being the first day of any given week, I thought it most fitting for the occasion.

Magick on Sunday
A Sunday Circle
The creation of a circle, as I have mentioned in other posts, can be wonderfully tailored to a specific association – when I am choosing to create it with Sunday particularities, I will use the information above to accent it. For example, I would use a quartz or citrine tipped wand, preferably made of the Oak or Cedar wood which corresponds to this day and when walking my circle to cast visualise the circle forming of golden energy, like rays of the sun. Physically, I would mark it with other crystals associated with this day, most likely Carnelian or Tiger’s Eye; I also use an incense blend to physically cast, using a combination of cinnamon, calendula and cedar chips.

Sun on Sunday
I find absorbing and using the energy of the Sun, whether it is shining or not, a delightful addition to Sunday magicks. There are several practices I use on a Sunday before I perform magicks, preparatory exercises:
The Sun Salutation

Submerge & Emerge
(a combined grounding and centring process).
This is almost a meditational process in itself but I consider it more a visualisation. It can be done with any of the elements but as this is a post about Sundays, I will use fire as my element of choice. It may seem a strange concept to use fire as a catalyst of grounding but it works for me and so I use it often.
Ø    Find a place outside where you will not be disturbed. This should be somewhere you are surrounded by the elements as much as possible.
Ø    Close your eyes and find the calm place in your mind where you are granted access to the unseen.
Ø    Your astral body will do the journeying from this point. Set it to step forward as if moving into an invisible elevator… this takes you from your physical body. With your thoughts projecting your astral body, expand an echo of your aura around it.
Ø    Allow yourself to sink into the earth; keep the elevator metaphor going if it helps. Your astral body descends through the layers of soil, deeper and deeper. Take time to do this, sense everything and as you descend toward the centre of this planet we call home attune your energy so it aligns with that of the earth. Let the surrounding element absorb from your astral body and the echo of your aura all of your scattered, negative or discarded energyThis will prepare your energy for what is to come.
Ø    As your journey continues, you will feel the molten heat of the earths centre reaching out to meet you… let it guide you to its liquid fire. When you reach the golden core, don’t stop; keep sinking until you are immersed in it.
Ø    Let the energy emitted from your molten surroundings swirl, swish and sway around you; really feel the energy of being at the centre of the earth
Ø    Mirror the lava’s ability to be a perpetual and powerful core by opening your solar plexus chakra and drawing the ability in. Let it glow within the chakra, see how it reacts with your energy, feel how it changes the flow before the two energies assimilate within the chakra allowing you to feel connected completely to the earth and its fiery core.
Ø    When you are ready to return to your physical body, close your solar plexus chakra and begin your ascent back through the earth. Notice if the added ‘fire-power’ changes the journey? My personal practice with this particular technique made me notice the reds in the soil more and feel the vibration of the molten depths below me.
Ø    Before reaching the surface and your body, use the new fiery power of your solar plexus to centre yourself as if your entire energy field is oxygen-based and that fire blazing in your solar centre is consuming it.
Ø    When you break the surface and return to your body, you will be more grounded and centred than you can possibly imagine… ready to work with all the energies of the Universe.

Drawing Down the Sun
The Sun is the most powerful body that we are aware of in the sky; providing heat, light and some much needed mystery. The golden beams touch every inch of our planet at some point in any given day creating a bright warm glow on all they find. This golden energy can be invoked and used for magickal purposes by ‘Drawing Down the Sun’, a ritual which has been practiced for many years to gain, align and possibly assimilate with this strong energy. I personally choose to see it as a masculine energy because of it’s strength and cycle. There is a great comfort in that for me – that the Sun is masculine and the Moon is feminine. I draw down both energies in ritual to feel closer to both the Universe and to the God and Goddess aspects of it which I identify with.

Drawing Down the Sun

When in a Coven setting, a High Priest or designated male member of the group would generally be called upon to Draw Down the Sun and invoke the energy of the God but as a solitary practitioner I do not have this option and so I invoke Him myself. This is not a ritual I perform often because the energy being invoked is naturally very masculine; therefore, I only use it when I feel I need such an energy to balance myself. As a Gemini who was born under the Celtic Oak moon, I rarely need to be ‘topped up’ with masculine energy. When I do Draw Down the Sun, I perform it on a Sunday, usually at sunrise because I feel the connection most strongly at that time. So, here’s how I drawn down and invoke the powerful Lord of the skies:

Preparation
Ø    A physical cleanse is the first thing to consider; this ritual is a sacred event and should be treated as such. I have two options for cleansing; if I’m performing on a Sabbat I will use both, if not, I will pick one:
i)         A fast – traditional fasting for this ritual is for 24 hours but this can be adjusted to suit your practices. As I am very in-tune with the concept of balance, I will fast for 12 hours if performing at an Equinox but 24 hours if performing at a Solstice.
ii)       Cleanse & Purge. This is the method for you if time is short or you choose to have a decreased preparation time. Take a ritual bath with herbs associated with the God, listen to music which draws the God close to you – something powerful, masculine, masterful – opera scores work well for me.
Ø    Altar setup:
·        Yellow or Golden cloth
·        God-inspired incense
·        A phallic symbol or God image/statue
·        A candle to represent you (place to the left of the God image); choose a colour to demonstrate your stage of life and feel your connection to that stage of the God’s life cycle:
Ø       Young Sun King
Ø       Father of the Forest
Ø       God of the Underworld
·        A gold candle to represent the God (place to the right of the God image).
·        A bowl of seeds (placed behind the God image)
·        A glass of water (placed behind the bowl of seeds) to be consumed later.
Ø    Cast your circle
Ø    Specifically invite the elements with a masculine/God-based inflection to your invocations:

Greetings to the Air and His power
Come forth from the Eastern tower
Move within this sacred space
Winds of Spirit, bring God’s good grace
So in this circle, where magicks swell
His protection keeps all very well
I beg alignment with the Lord of the Sun
Let me breathe Him in, let us be one
So I might know the presence divine
Within me feel His golden light shine
Hear His voice in each word spoken
A connection that is never broken

Greeting to Fire and His power
Come forth from the Southern Tower
Ignite within this sacred space
Embers of Spirit, bring God’s good grace
So in this circle where magicks dwell
Your protection keeps all very well
I beg oneness with the Lord of the Sun
To be impassioned and to become one
So I might know presense divine
Within me feel his golden light shine
See His sacred flame so bright
In this world I hold so tight

Greetings to Water and Her power
Come forth from the Western Tower
Flow within this sacred space
Elixir of Spirit, bring God’s good grace
So in this circle where magicks swell
Your protection keeps all very well
I beg alignment with the Lord of the Sun
Let me drink Him in, become one
So I might know presence divine
Within me feel His golden light shine
Feel his power cresting high
On land, on sea or in the sky

Greetings to the Earth and Her power
Come forth from the Northern tower
Root deeply in this sacred space
Soils of Spirit, bring God’s good grace
So in this circle, where magicks dwell
Your protection keeps all very well.
I beg alignment with the Lord of the Sun
To be strengthened by and become one
So I might know presence divine
Within me feel His golden light shine
Feel His sacred seed grow healthy
In His abundance, feel wealthy

Greetings to you, Great God, divine
Lord of the Sun, your golden light shines
Within and without I know you are near
Present in my sacred space, dear
Father and son, great aspects of man
Grandfather too, elder of clan
You are the youth, the man and the sage
Masculine strength and passions that rage
By your gifts, I am indeed blessed
From the North, East, South and West
In this circle, I align with thee
Love and light, so mote it be
Ø    To signify the God’s presence, light the God candle on your altar. Take the seeds and honour Him by sprinkling them around the base of the candle, greeting Him. Sit at the centre of your circle and visualise the following meditation:
See yourself as you currently sit – in your circle. Above you, see the radiant golden glow of light pouring down to you and your altar; the light has the face of the God; beautiful and potent; young and energetic, yet ancient and discerning. His face shifts into images of masculinity from many cultures – some old, some young before they fade back into that brilliant, blazing energy of golden God light.

The light shining down will begin to saturate your crown chakra and spread through your astral body, reaching to the very core and the very edge of your soul and body simultaneously. Feel the God’s power energise and purify you from head to tow, inside and out – feel brighter, feel stronger, feel potent and invigorated. At last, the God’s shining light and energy will come to rest in your heart chakra. You feel that part of the Him within you as the God and you, align and unite within that chakra until it sparks into a flame. See the flame of His golden light glowing with the green energy of your higher heart chakra. Focus completely on this flame for it is the God’s gift to you to be present in your heart. Welcome into yourself, He who is, was and always will be a part of you.

Ø    Move to you altar and light the personal candle by sharing the flame with the Spirit candle of the God.
Ø    Kneel or sit at your altar and begin to slip into the union between you and the divine. Your consciousness will alter as the God takes over and you drift into the astral, fully aware of your surroundings and what’s happening but sweetly engrossed in your union with the God.
Before you kneel/sit at your altar, you may feel the urge to dance, sing, chant or meditate more to more greatly induce your trancelike state and raise your energy more fully.
Ø    Raise your hands to embrace your God and let His energy completely overtake your body so He is sharing your body w ith you – He looks out through your eyes. Be confident that He is with you, feel Him and trust that He is there with love and will be gentle with your body and your spirit.
Ø    Next is to define the purpose of the God’s presence. Some of His most well-worked and prominent abilities lend well toward performing blessings, guiding illuminating exercises, channelling energy and health and offering logical insights. Whether you choose one or more of these intentions, or one of your own, bask and rejoice in His presence and enjoy what you are doing.
a)       If you have a purpose planned suring this ritual, the God will aid you in your practice. No matter what is – divining the future, enacting a rite, healing, spell work; regardless of what magick you are working, the God will guide it and amplify your efforts 100-fold. Knowing what you want the ritual to be for – it’s intention means the god can pick up on that intention and lend His efforts to the fruition of your magick.
b)      If you don’t have anything specific planned, He may or may not instigate something for you, something you may not have realised you needed. You will have to listen.
c)       If you simply wish to commune with the God, you needn’t plan anything. Invoke His presence and see what happens.
Ø    As the God’s activities are reaching an end, kneel once more before your altar and focus on His energy within you.
Ø    Lift your hand high to release His energy and return back to your normal consciousness. Back out of His energy, as if it was a hug but keep the warm feeling of acceptance and love.
Ø    Ground and centre yourself, breathing deeply and you return fully to the physical world.
Ø    Snuff out the God’s candle and drink your glass of water.
Ø    Finish with your ritual: offerings, feasting, etc. but remember to thank the God at the end for His presence, His efforts and His help:
My thanks to you, Great God, divine
Lord of the Sun, whose light in me shines
I shall cherish always the gifts you gave
Strength and passion, courage, so brave
As I walk on from this sacred place
Remind me always I am in your embrace
So I might see you in each beam of the Sun
And know that you’re watching and that we are one
Your presence is felt in the light of each day
The heat of your spirit is with me to stay
To my God, whom is everywhere that I see
Love and Light my Lord, Blessed Be.
Ø    Close your circle.
