Moon Phase - Waxing Crescent

Maiden Moon
The Waxing Crescent
(3½ - 7 days after New Moon)

Cascade of gentle waxing light
Lunar maiden growing bright

The Moon of Regeneration

NEW BEGINNINGS - CHANGES – EMOTIONS – ANIMALS – BUSINESS –
INCREASED POWER – EXPANSION – INCREASEMENT –MATERIAL STRENGTH
– EMOTIONAL UPSETS

The waxing crescent moon is a time for magick of new beginnings; as it is currently coinciding with the Celtic month of Birch, I thought it was a good time to write this. As the new moon was only three days previous, and the moon cycle relates to the life cycle of the Goddess, I like to think of this moon phase as the pre-teen Goddess (nearly maidenly, but not quite). This way, I find the energy of my workings during this time is very youthful and excitable – almost a ‘Christmas Eve’ feeling.

The energy of the waxing crescent is that of the growing moon, the Goddess as she is blossoming; it’s a low energy at this point but it is building. Spells and rituals that take time, the ones that take more than one moon phase to reach fruition, should be started when the moon is waxing at the crescent stage.

The power of it, I utilise with a visualisation/meditation:

  1. Sitting in front of my altar (or outside if the moon is visible), I will picture Artemis (Greek maiden Goddess associated with the moon) as a child, around 11 years old; she is before me with a flower in her hand, the petals are folded together, encompassing the energy that I require.
  2. I request from her the energy of the waxing crescent for my working and wait for her response.
  3. If her decision is to grant my request, she will give the flower to me, and fade out of the image. If she chooses not to grant my request, she just fades and the flower will fall into nothing (this has happened only once).
  4. With the flower in my hand, I focus on it opening in my hand, and as it does, the crescent moon rises from it. It sits maybe 3” above the flower, which then fades out of sight.
  5. There are a few ways that I will then harness the energy for my working:
    1. Allow the crescent to sink onto my hand and then radiate the energy through my body.
    2. If I am using the energy to bless a new item (tool, book, etc.), I will visualise the small crescent in my hand gliding toward and then into that item.
    3. When I need a large power boost, as the energy is quite minimal, I will imagine the moon multiplying into many crescents, until the image in my mind, the atmosphere of the space I am in is suffused with many glowing arcs. Then I will draw them all into myself, as if I was a vacuum.

  1. Once the energy is within me (to disperse through my working), I will thank Artemis for her gift and slowly release the visualisation as I open my eyes.

There are many other ways to gain and utilise this energy but these are mine. I consider them quite simple and it would easy to make them more elaborate but that is not who I am - I like simple. ‘Drawing Down the Moon’ is not limited to the phase of the Full Moon and so I consider this a simplified version of that practice.

Lessons of Time

I’ve heard it said and it’s been sung
That youth is wasted on the young
But given your time once again
Would you change what happened then?

Because the lessons you have learned
Would be lost if time was turned
Backwards to escape the present
Or make a future that’s more pleasant

Decisions made, if good or bad
Cannot change with “I wish I had
Hold the thought close in your mind
That all of time cannot rewind.

Wittering On 06/01/14

With the moon waxing at the moment, I have three workings planned for the coming week:
1.       Charging my altar with waxing energy
2.     Request an increase in readership for my blog
3.      Cast a good luck spell on my love life

Today my Rowan wand arrived:

I’m so excited to use it which will start 22nd January with the beginning of the Rowan month. I have a blessing planned and written which I will be posting to my blog with the strengths of the Rowan wand closer to the time of performing it.

Inspirational People #4 - Mandi See

Mandi See
(Harmony Love/The Shoe Whiperer/Celetial Astaria)

I have changed the picture of Mandi on this post as I know from reading her 'facebook' that now she is once again brunette, she prefers to not have her blonde pictures on display as much.

Mandi is one of the loveliest people I've got to know through youTube videos. Her take on witchcraft and spiritual matters is completely unique and beautifully expressed. She offers down-to earth explanations, insights and advice with a sweet, witchy charm. I thoroughly enjoy watching her speak on matters of magickal exploration with a genuine passion for the subject.

Not only is she wonderfully inspirational as a fellow witch but also, because she models and doesn’t conform to a size zero figure, she is incredibly inspiring as a woman. Add to this that she has just launched her own website and she becomes a beacon of entrepreneurial inspiration too.

Inspirational People #3 - Sami Valenzuela

Sami Valenzuela

I admire this stunningly unique spirit for her individuality, her courage, her determination and her grace under fire. She has a beautiful energy and a directness that she splendidly employs to make her youTube videos extremely informative and amusing; a complete pleasure to watch.

A self-confessed ‘Crystalist’; a phrase that she has coined herself (I believe) to depict a woman who is driven, encouraged and empowered by her love and belief in the essence of gem/crystal energies. Not only this but her entrepreneurial skills have led her to create an entire business from this love of the earth’s most sparkling bounty. Her website and store: On the Rocks Crystals (run from her home in Texas, USA) always her appears her pride and joy and she has many devoted customers.

She has inspired me personally to practice ‘shadow-work’, a term in paganism and some Wiccan paths which I interpret as ‘dealing with’ the negative aspects of your own personality in a way that is both productive and beneficial. .I am finding it very beneficial and so I give thanks to Sami for this.

Her personal hardships as well as her own blend of humour, knowledge, wit and caffeine have made her a charismatic and dedicated human being who I feel privileged to ‘know’.

Inspirational People #2 - Laura Daligan

Laura Daligan

The essence and energy of this incredibly, natural (except for the hair) and magickal woman is unlike anything I’ve ever known. She is beautiful, intelligent, spiritual and so very expressive in her love of fairies, magick and trees that she inspired me to start not only hugging trees but talking to them (and singing too). A self-confessed tree-hugger herself, the youTube videos she posts regarding the trees of the Celtic calendar are not only informative and easy to understand but entertaining.

Laura is also an artist of the most striking calibre. When I look at the subjects in her paintings, I can almost see them glowing with her energy. She pours everything into her art and although I’ve never seen one outside of a youTube video, it is so obvious that it is a great passion of hers.

Also included on her channel (Witchcraft Diaries) are videos on about twenty totem animals; information on seasonal celebrations (Sabbats); and more basic videos too on circle casting, wand making, faery visitations and much more.

Well worth a look at her channel because her enthusiasm for magick of the natural world is infectious and completely inspiring.

Inspirational People #1 - Shiann Raven Moon

Shiann Raven Moon

This beautiful woman is my best friend; not only because we have similar interests and follow a pagan path but because of whom she is: warm-hearted, generous of spirit, supportive, helpful the list of qualities is truly endless. Her friendship is a blessing; I cherish it and thank the Goddess for her daily. So much so that I wrote this for her:

A waterfall cascading
Elemental flow parading

An English rose in bloom
Earthly elemental plume

Lightest whispering breeze
Breath of elemental ease

Flame and ember burning
Fiery elemental learning

All elements combine
Making you divine

And the spirit you posses
Deserves nothing less

Though this poem is a little abstract, I like to think its message is quite clear: that friends like Shiann are very hard to find and deserve to be held on to and enjoyed so

And be thankful that some people truly have a heart of gold.
