Centring is, to me, the most fundamental
part of magickal application, or any spiritual practice for that matter. It
is the act of aligning your own energies and the process of finding inner stillness to make
focusing your intention & thoughts possible. You simplify and organise them
so that you can focus more intently whilst in a relaxed state. When you centre,
you are preparing your mind, and your spirit, for a working by calming yourself
internally. I'm sure everyone has heard the term “Mind, Body & Spirit”;
these are the elements of you that centring will align and harmonise. Without
centring yourself the energy you use for magick or spiritual practice will not
be concentrated enough to project your intention to the Universe.
Centring is the second step of magickal preparation,
after grounding. Once you are anchored to the physical via grounding, you have
the freedom to bring your energies together.
Calcite Centring
Citrine or
sunstone work just as well but I’m partial to the calcite.
I find the easiest place to focus my energy is at
the solar plexus chakra – the emotional centre. Pictured to the left is my calcite
crystal which I use for centring – it is specifically charged for the purpose
of bringing all of my thoughts, emotions and energies to my solar plexus.
Charging the Calcite
The charge is simple enough but you require 3
things:
- A
yellow calcite crystal
- Magnetic/Lodestone
Oil
- An
imagination
How?
1. Cleanse
the crystal through incense or smudging. As crystals are so self-cleansing,
they rarely require anything else but if you like, it can be cleansed under
full moon energy too.
2.
Anoint
the calcite with Lodestone oil; this can be brought or made – see recipe →
3.
Hold
the crystal, close your eyes and visualise its energy – a bright, yellow,
shining, sun-like light. It emanates through every molecule, particle and atom
of the calcite.
4. Let the light travel to
your solar plexus using any method which feels right.
5.
Once
you feel the crystal energy in your chakra, begin to infuse it with your
intention.
6.
Focus
your emotions, your thoughts and your energy on that one spot; feel the
magnetic force from the oil pull them all in to your solar plexus.
7.
Tell
the calcite – silently or otherwise - you wish it to repeat this action whenever
you use it.
8.
Hold
the crystal against your solar plexus and imagine the physical stone sinking
into the chakra vortex.
9.
Give
the calcite back its light and visualise it withdrawing.
10. You can open your eyes and
place the crystal to one side. You are now calcite centred.
To use the crystal later
1.
Once
you’ve grounded, repeat step 8 of the charge process – hold the calcite against
your solar plexus and visualise the physical image of it before sinking it into
you chakra.
2.
Visualise
the magnetic properties of the oil on the calcite activating.
3.
When
they do, they will draw all of your thoughts, emotions and energies to it.
4. Visually withdraw it and
place it down – you are now centred.
